Goals and Good Reads

Image
At the beginning of 2017, I sat down and wrote out a few goals I wanted to accomplish for the year. One of those goals was to finish one book by the end of each month. I had loved reading when I was younger and wanted to get back into it. I'm happy to say that my reading goal was accomplished.... and then some☺ I finished 50 books this year, which is what the original goal of 12 grew into. I thought I would share something I learned from each one. Girl Defined by Kristen Clark and Bethany Baird taught me what it means to embrace my identity as a female in a biblical and God-honoring way, not like the world tells me to. Kristen and Bethany also have a youtube channel and a blog that you can check out  here and here . If You Find This Letter by Hannah Brencher taught me that it's okay to not have it all together. It showed me that most of us don't, and we should do our best to remember that and be there for one another. "The point isn't to be above a

December 26th : Not Over

Today is December 26th. There are new toys to play with, and new clothes to be washed. Leftover ham is for lunch, and you better grab a cookie before they're gone. Dad says we need to soon put up the reindeer in the yard before it gets colder. We go back to work, soon the tree will come down, and the Christmas movies will be put on a shelf. Rudolph will land, Frosty will melt, and Santa is bound for a long vacation. Christmas is gone for another year, according to the calendar. But is it really? Where could it go? Does joy, hope, peace, and love just get packed away in boxes between the twinkle lights and the red-colored bows? Do relatives go home and have to wait a whole other 365 days to eat another meal together? Does the birth of our Savior get shut between the pages until December 25th swings around again? A month from now, we'll have forgotten the warmth and light of the glowing evergreen tree. Memories of laughter and board games and the star in the night wi

On Being a Part of Something Bigger than Me

Do you ever get the sense that what is going on is more than you can imagine? A week ago, I was experiencing that feeling. Journey to Bethlehem has become my church's biggest ministry project of the year. My family is very involved, from helping set up weeks before to being there every night acting in and behind the scenes of the event. I'm so glad I have had the opportunity to have been there since the very first year and watch it grow by leaps and bounds. Putting together a drive-thru live nativity is no small task, and I'm thankful to even have a small part to play in this production. Over the years, people have come, cried, invited their friends, and even given their hearts to the Lord. This year though, as I greeted visitors and asked how the 'Journey' had been so far, there was an underlying sense that God had planned this. Credit: H. Why Start A Blog?

Image
First off, hello! Welcome to Becoming Brittney Nicole! As this is my very first post on my very first blog, I am so glad that you have decided to check it out! Now, why even start a blog? Isn't there enough out there on the Internet ranging from style to recipes to pets? What is this blog even about? Well, I have come up with a few of my own reasons for starting a blog. I have a story to tell.   It's so easy to look at others, especially on social media, and wish that our lives looked like theirs. Don't get caught up in that. Don't compare your worst days with their best. We each have our own stories to tell.  I am in an important season of life. I'm almost half-way through my senior year of high school, and I turn 18 next month. These are milestones in my life that I want to share and be able to look back on. I want my posts to matter .... and sometimes a simple caption is not enough. It gives me a place to practice writing. Being a writer i
